Mesophase pitch, a liquid crystal state pitch prepared from naphthalene, exhibits many outstanding properties, such as high strength, high thermal conductivity and high electric conductivity, etc. It shows a very low softening point and low viscosity at molten stage while retaining a high coking value. Mesophase pitch can be used as precursors of carbon fiber, carbon foam and lithium-ion battery anode material, or as matrix materials in carbon/carbon composite processing.
