A double-pass AAO template can be obtained by removing the barrier layer of a single-pass AAO template and the aluminum substrate underneath. With the aluminum substrate, a single-pass AAO is opaque with colored surface, while a double-pass AAO template is generally translucent.
The color of double-pass template mainly depends on the electrolyte composition, electrolytic voltage or current density and electrolysis time. The crystalline state of double-pass film is greatly related to the electrolytic current density. Under super-high current density such as 2000-4000A/m2, the formed film can be changed into crystal.
The strength of double-pass AAO template depends on the porosity and template thickness. In general, the lower the porosity, the higher the strength; the thicker the template, the higher the strength.
The order degree of the front side of double-pass AAO template is generally better than that of its back side. The front side is placed upward during packing, and the upward side is the front side after opening packaging.
The arrangement and order degree of pores of double-pass AAO template are generally the same as its single-pass counterpart except for some special situations.
